Today’s featured company:
DVDs: Escape to Witch Mountain & Return to Witch Mountain
A little more about them:
As the story of Witch Mountain returns to movie theaters this year with the release of Race to Witch Mountain, the original films that launched the Witch Mountain saga, Escape to Witch Mountain and Return to Witch Mountain, are returning to DVD in special new editions from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
In Escape to Witch Mountain, first released in 1975, orphaned siblings Tony and Tia Malone (Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards) discover their paranormal powers and learn the truth about their origin. In the 1978 sequel, Return to Witch Mountain, the Malone children recruit a band of juvenile delinquents to help them battle a pair of criminal masterminds played by Bette Davis and Christopher Lee.
The new Walt Disney Family Classics DVD editions both contain extensive bonus features, including all new Pop-Up Fun Facts, filmmaker commentaries, and more. They will be available in stores on March 10, three days before the theatrical release of Race to Witch Mountain.
I have watched both of these movies with my own kids (ages 8 & 11). I ordered them from Netflix over Christmas Break as a diversion. My motivation was to introduce my kids to some of the movies I loved as a child. My success was that my children LOVE these movies. We’ve returned and re-ordered these movies twice since Christmas. I was fairly excited when I was approached to receive these movies and offer a set to you as well! (Now I won’t have to mess up my Netflix queue!) When I asked my daughter if she wanted to help me review the movies she said, “Here’s my review: AWESOME!”
The Disney live-action films from the 1960s and 1970s have always been some of my favorites: The Ugly Dachshund, Candleshoe, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, the original Shaggy Dog, and of course, The Witch Mountain Movies. The chance to share these movies with my kids is priceless. Yes, the effects are cheezy, but the storyline is solid–at least as solid as many movies out today.
The movies I received had a code to print free movie tickets for the new Witch Mountain movie, Race to Witch Mountain which opens this Friday, March 13!
Trivia: The actress who plays Tia (Kim Richards) is Paris Hilton’s aunt. Seriously.

Skadoosh! The story continues! He may have defeated Tai Lung, but Dragon Warrior Po (Jack Black) must now face Shifu’s (Dustin Hoffman) biggest challenge, teaching Kung Fu to a group of eager bunnies from the Valley of Peace. Although Po is now able to face the fiercest of villains, he is completely out of his element in the classroom. To gain the unruly group’s attention, he leans on the one thing closest to his heart; his knowledge of Kung Fu lore. He tells the students the stories of how each of the five unlocked an important lesson which allowed them to become “excellent†and put them on the road to being the
Kung Fu masters they are today. In the end, Po will see that through sharing these stories, he has taught the bunnies much more important lessons than he ever could have through Kung Fu exercises.
